IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
What is Intense Pulsed Light therapy
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a non-invasive and non-ablative treatment that uses high intensity pulses of visible light to improve the appearance of vascular lesions, broken facial capillaries, Rosacea, freckles, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles and removal of unwanted dark hair. This treatment is performed by a Physician, Nurse or technician trained in IPL procedures.
The process of rejuvenating aging and damaged skin using IPL is referred to as photorejuvenation and requires a series of treatments for optimal results.
IPL technology uses a high-powered, hand-held, computer-controlled flashgun to deliver an intense, visible, broad-spectrum pulse of light (400 to 1200 nm). The light energy of the device is converted to heat energy in the skin. Various cutoff filters are commonly used to selectively filter out lower wavelengths, especially ultra violet light. The resulting light has a spectral range that targets specific structures and chromophores (such as melanin in hair, or oxyhemoglobin in blood vessels), that are heated to destruction and the remnants reabsorbed by the body.
IPL shares some similarities with laser treatments. Both use light to heat and destroy their targets. Lasers use a single wavelength (1500 nm or about 1900nm) of light that typically matches only one chromophore target in the skin, hence only one condition. IPL uses a broad spectrum and with appropriate filters, allowing it to be used against several conditions.
Side Effects of IPL
Although IPL is considered very safe and effective, side effects can occur. The FDA has received adverse event reports of burns, blisters, scarring, and skin discolorations. One of the main factors contributing to these complications was the failure to adhere to the device’s operation and maintenance instructions. The light and heat help tighten the skin by producing wounds to specific components of the skin, such as collagen. As the skin heals, it tightens and texture improves.
NeoGenesis Pre and Post IPL
The health of the skin prior to a IPL treatment benefits the skin and the outcome greatly. Use of NeoGenesis Recovery twice daily for a minimum of two weeks prior to an IPL treatment will naturally deliver all the nutrients needed to improve the health of the skin. Healthy skin will produce better results and faster healing after the procedure. NeoGenesis Intensive Moisturizer used after Recovery will keep the skin hydrated and improve the barrier function of the skin.
Immediately following an IPL treatment, Recovery should be used a minimum of twice daily to speed healing, reduce inflammation, irritation and downtime. In addition, our Intensive Moisturizer can be used twice daily, or as often as needed, to hydrate the skin and provide proper barrier function.
Two weeks after a treatment when significant healing has occurred, Recovery may be reduced to a maintenance application of 3 to 4 times per week, if desired. Our Booster or Skin Serum is be introduced in place of Recovery, twice daily, followed by our Intensive Moisturizer for healthy, hydrated skin.
Reviews:
“I’m a licensed Pharmacist and work with and used other skin care products in the past but my experience has left me in shock after personally seeing how NeoGenesis Recovery worked on my IPL Laser Burns. I honestly have never seen anything like it, it worked so fast!”
Professional Feedback: I observed 1st and 2nd degree burns after treatment with IPL Laser by her Dermatologist. These IPL burns were sustained from a treatment by her Dermatologist seven days earlier. The worst areas were oozing and quite inflamed.
I got her permission to use NeoGenesis Recovery on the burn area. 12 hours after first application, pain subsided substantially. She was shocked that the NeoGenesis Recovery had worked so fast and stated that she’s never seen anything like it. ~ Cathy Estrella, South Country MedSpa

“I have tried out a variety of treatments and this is the most aggressive one. I was concerned about the down time and my comfort level. I didn’t miss any work and the Recovery product when applied had a cooling effect of the heat. I am very impressed by the results; I used the Recovery only on my face and you can see how well it reduced the redness by the second day, compared to the neck that I didn’t use the Recovery on.” ~ P

“Good for post procedure. I love the Recovery serum. Bought to use after IPL treatments and I had a quick recovery of my skin with no burning or damage from the laser. And that is despite being a Fitzpatrick 4! Impressed and will buy again to use after other cosmetic procedures.” ~ SK – Art of Skin Care
