Post Cancer Surgery
Surgery, whether exploratory, preventive, or more invasive to remove cancerous tissue, can take two weeks or longer to heal and leave scars that are either inconvenient or uncomfortable. Surgery wounds can take longer if you have a medical condition or are taking certain medications, such as steroids.
Prophylactic surgery is preventive surgery that is done to remove an organ or gland that shows no signs of cancer in an attempt to prevent any cancer from developing in that organ or gland. Prophylactic surgery is performed when people who know they are at high risk for developing certain cancers. One example is prophylactic mastectomy where one or both breasts are removed for those who carry the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation. These individuals may be able to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer by 95%.
Other surgeries may be diagnostic, which is performed in order to attain a biopsy. Invasive surgeries are more invasive and are used to remove cancerous tissue.
Solutions
